ROBERT E. KERR, AIA (rkerr@rkad.com)

Robert Kerr received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arkansas in 1992, which included a 5 month Urban Study in Rome, Italy. In 1996 he received a Masters of Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology, where he won several awards for design excellence.

After working on museum and installation projects at Hodgetts + Fung Architecture and Design in Santa Monica, he worked as a project architect for Clive Wilkinson Architects. Mr. Kerr was tasked with conceptual design through construction administration on the 110,000 sq. ft. headquarters for the TBWA/Chiat/Day advertisement agency in Playa del Rey. Following that, Robert worked for Koning Eizenberg Architecture in Santa Monica, as a Project Architect/Project Manager, with responsibilities including the recent Los Angeles Farmers Market/The Grove expansion.Since 2003 Robert has been principal of ROBERT KERR architecture design.

Additionally, Robert was a member of the creative team on the 1996 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the 1997 Hong Kong Handover Celebration and the Super Bowl XXXIII Halftime Show.

Robert has been a Visiting Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology (2000), and, since 2005, has been an Adjunct Professor in the Architecture and Interior Architecture Programs at Woodbury University in Burbank, California since 2005. In 2007, he joined the University of Arkansas’ Professional Advisory Board to the College of Architecture.

Robert is a member of the American Institute of Architects, and is a licensed architect in California and Georgia.

ROBERT KERR architecture design, in Santa Monica, was established in 2003 as a multi-disciplinary architecture and design firm with its workload consisting of residential, commercial and other public projects.

ROBERT KERR architecture design’s focus is to incorporate the spontaneity and intricacy of contemporary life by creating specific objects. This is achieved with a rigorous design process that engages the relationships between each client, their social or cultural environments and the specifics of their site. Our approach is holistic while understanding the best architecture often arises from unconventional, creative thinking. Reclamation while creating innovative formal expressions, financial permanence and environmental sustainability remain our priority. We strive for an economical, sociological and environmental solution on each project.

ROBERT KERR architecture design, is also committed to sustainable design and finding ways to make our designs fit most sympathetically into their environments. As a result, we have developed the ‘SELECT’ building system, which is a hybrid system that includes prefabricated units, modular building components and custom construction. The first SELECT building is currently in schematic design for a site in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Current and past clients include Viewsonic Incorporated, Lotte International, The Los Angeles Farmers Market, The Los Angeles Music Center (Disney Concert Hall), MICE international, The morYork Gallery, Westside Neighborhood School, the Hollywood & Highland Retail Complex and the City of Santa Monica.
