This 2,600 square foot hillside residence is located in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles.

This house is an interlocking composition of horizontal and vertical bars designed to counter the visual obstacle of an extremely vertical site. Resisting the urge to perch on top of the hillside, it carves away only enough of the landscape to provide a respectful nesting. This method of placement preserves views, natural landscape and neighbors' views.

Finishes are used throughout to accentuate the interlocking bars and also to reflect the natural vegetation of the landscape.
